This week’s ASOR Player of the Week for a second consecutive week is awarded to Darius McGhee.

Just days before the ASUN Tournament, McGhee was named ASUN Player of the Year. He backed up that honor with an incredible tournament performance that earned him ASUN Tournament MVP. McGhee became the second consecutive Flame to win Regular Season and Tournament MVP, joining Caleb Homesley. McGhee led the team in scoring in two out of the three games and maintained averages of 16.6 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game, and 4.6 assists per game throughout the entirety of the tournament. McGhee saved his best performance for the ASUN Championship game, where he scored 21 points on 7-14 shooting, along with securing 8 rebounds and 2 assists.

The ASUN Player of the Year has had quite the season. On the year, McGhee is averaging 15.6 points per game, 4.4 rebounds per game, and 2.1 assists per game. The junior leads the team in points, steals, minutes played, and is second on the team in rebounds and blocks. McGhee also shoots the ball at 45.8% from the field and an elite 41.3% from behind the arc. This is McGhee’s fifth time being named our Player of the Week, the most on the team by a good margin.

After winning a third consecutive ASUN Championship, McGhee and the Flames will wait for Selection Sunday to find out who their opponent will be. If McGhee can continue his hot shooting streak and Liberty can keep their momentum rolling, then the Flames should be quite the test for whomever they face in the opening rounds. Selection Sunday will be on March 14th at 6 pm and will be televised on CBS. Make sure to tune in to find out who the three-time defending ASUN Champions will face!
