This week’s ASOR Player of the Week is once again awarded to Darius McGhee.

After the North Alabama series was moved to Monday/Tuesday to begin the past week, the Flames played in three games in six days and Darius McGhee was a force in all of them. In game 1 against UNA, McGhee set a new career-high in scoring with 29 points. In the second game, McGhee once again reached the 20 point threshold, scoring 24 along with securing 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

While those games were two of McGhee’s best all season, he saved his best for last against Bellarmine. Against the Knights, McGhee went off for 34 points (career-high) and 3 rebounds. McGhee’s 34 points were the most points scored by a Flame in a single game since 2010. McGhee also tied Liberty’s single-game record for most 3-point Field Goals (8). A mark also set by Larry Jackson in 1996.

The junior guard was a preseason First Team All-ASUN selection, but due to his recent performances, McGhee may be the favorite to win ASUN Player of The Year. Just this week in three games, McGhee has recorded 87 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and a block. In his last five games, McGhee has 114 points, 17 rebounds, 10 assists, 4 steals, and a block. On the year, the Roxboro, North Carolina native is averaging 15.5 points a game, along with 4.2 rebounds per game and 1.8 assists per game. He also boasts a field goal percentage of 46.4%. McGhee leads the team in scoring, steals, minutes played, three-pointers made, and is second on the team in rebounds, trailing only Blake Preston.

While McGhee will wait and see if he will be selected the ASUN Player of The Year, the Flames are entering the ASUN Tournament as the #1 seed for the second straight season. This season, the ASUN Tournament has a neutral location (Jacksonville, FL), and Liberty is scheduled to play all their games at UNF Arena. McGhee and the Flames will begin ASUN Madness Thursday against the #8 seed Kennesaw State. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 2:00 est, and you can watch the game on ESPN+.
