This Saturday when the Flames face Charleston Southern, it will be senior day for Liberty’s senior class. This year, to highlight the occasion, we are going to put a spotlight on one senior per day. There is only 7 days until senior day this Saturday, and there will be more than 7 seniors honored. So, we can’t highlight each and every senior, but we will be able to honor 7 of them.

Today, is Dante Shells day!

The 5th year senior finally comes to the end of his playing time at Liberty. He has played in 44 games and made 23 starts. Listed at 6’1″, 180 pounds, Shells came to Liberty by way of Caesar Rodney High School in Camden, Delaware. He needs just 38 receiving  yards to become the 7th Flame to reach 2,000 career receiving yards. After spending most of his career as Liberty’s 2nd or 3rd receiving option, he has burst onto the scene this year as the go-to receiver. Shells has scored 7 touchdowns this season, and if he gets 2 more, he will be in 4th place on the school’s single-season record list. Shells caught a touchdown pass in 4 straight games earlier this season including a career-day against Robert Morris where he had 170 receiving yards and a touchdown. Shells has 4 career 100 yard receiving games including an 8 reception, 164 receiving yards and 75 yard touchdown catch to help the Flames to an upset win over Appalachian State in 2014.

Congratulations Dante and job well done on a fantastic career at Liberty!

It’s kind of surreal right now. I’ve been here for a while, so there was always the feeling of I have next year. There is no I have next year now. It’s finally hit me. I’m happy. I’m satisfied with the way things went, but at the same time it’s still a shock because every end of the year i always had a chance to look forward to next year. (We) just have to finish it off right.
