BYU has opened as a 7-point favorite against Liberty, as week 8 opening lines were announced on Sunday. The Flames (6-1) will play host to the Cougars (4-3) at Williams Stadium on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

This will be the second ever meeting between the two FBS Independent programs. BYU knocked off Liberty, 31-24, on Nov. 9, 2019 in the first game. The 2022 season also marks the last year the two schools will be FBS Independents as BYU is set to join the Big 12 and Liberty will move into Conference USA.

The Flames improved to 6-1 on Saturday thanks to a 21-20 win over Gardner-Webb. With that win, Liberty is now bowl eligible for a fourth straight season. BYU is 4-3 on the year following a 52-35 loss against Arkansas on Saturday. The Cougars have lost two straight and dropped out of the top 25 polls after beginning the season 4-1 and ranked in the top 15.

BYU quarterback Jaren Hall threw for a career-high 356 yards and three touchdowns in their loss against the Razorbacks. Puka Nacua had 141 receiving yards and three touchdowns, and Kody Epps added a career-high 125 receiving yards for the Cougars.

This year’s BYU-Liberty game will be played this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and televised on ESPNU.
