There are many questions surrounding the 2020 season and the bowl schedule, but right now Liberty is forging ahead needing 5 wins out of the 10-game schedule to become bowl eligible.

That’s the team’s goal – to return to a bowl game. Two wins against FCS opponents can count towards bowl eligibility this season. After that, there are some tough games on Liberty’s schedule, and here are three that are crucial to the team having a successful 2020 campaign.

LU vs Florida International Sept. 26: It’s the home opener for the Flames and a second straight Conference USA opponent to open the season. They’ve got a household name as head coach in Butch Davis as they aim to get back to a bowl game for a 4th consecutive season.

LU vs. Southern Miss, Oct. 24: This appeared to be the toughest home game on Liberty’s 2020 schedule until they laid an egg in their season opener to South Alabama. Now, Southern Miss’ head coach has resigned and Hugh Freeze has been mentioned as a possible replacement at his alma mater.

LU at Coastal Carolina, Dec. 5: The former Big South rivals find themselves back on the schedule in a game that was added late in the COVID-19 altered season. It wouldn’t be a shocker for this game to be a must win for both teams to become bowl eligible. Talk about rekindling an old rivalry.
