Pads were added to round up week one of spring practice, giving us a better chance to see what the Flames might look like next fall. We got a chance to look at who was emerging to replace the departures on the O-line.

  • Mitch Hanson, Aharhown Campbell, Greg Ray have been consistently on the line with the A-team squad.
  • Brandon Apon has been solid receiving and blocking. His size and athleticism has made him a phenomenal up field blocker.
  • Former quarterback Gabe Henderson has looked better and better at wideout, his route running was superb, leading to a couple breakaway touchdowns.
  • Henderson also worked on fielding punts and looked very comfortable. He and Kevin Fogg have been the most reliable in practice.

After allowing the fewest total yards of Big South teams in 2012, the defense has a lot to live up to in 2013. They seem to be on the right track.

  • Andrew Jauch, Jimmy O’Grady, and Scott Hyland were consistently good at linebacker, whether in coverage or stopping the run.
  • Players have been prioritizing good footwork to put themselves in good position to make plays.

The Flames have a closed practice today, but we will be back to check out Tuesday’s practice.
