On Saturday, former Liberty football players Demario Douglas and Durrell Johnson achieved their lifelong goals of reaching the NFL, and several additional Flames have also been given an opportunity to continue their football playing careers.

Austin Mock, Javon Scruggs, and TJ Green have all accepted rookie minicamp invites since the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft. Mock will get an opportunity with the Atlanta Falcons while Scruggs will participate in rookie minicamp for both the Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers, and Green will participate in the rookie minicamp for the Minnesota Vikings.

Mock was Liberty’s long snapper for the past five seasons as he became one of the most consistent long snappers in the entire country.

A local product from Appomattox, Virginia, Scruggs grew into a team leader over the duration of his career. After beginning his career at corner, Scruggs transitioned to safety where he was a starter and one of the defense’s best players over the past three seasons. He finished his career at Liberty with 264 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 6 interceptions, 7 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries.

After transferring from Utah, Green played his last two seasons at Liberty. He led Liberty’s running backs during the 2021 season with 477 rushing yards. During his college career, Green totaled 967 rushing yards with 709 of those coming from Liberty. He also had 16 receptions for 105 yards and 7 total touchdowns.

Demario Douglas was selected in the 6th round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Shortly following the conclusion of the draft, Durrell Johnson signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys.
