Liberty returns all of its primary specialists from a season ago as the Flames look to show some improvement after a shaky performance on special teams in 2021.

As the Flames begin spring camp on March 4, here is a look at the Special Teams, as well as a link to all of our other position by position spring previews:

SPECIAL TEAMS

Returners

Brayden Beck (So), Max Morgan (So), Aidan Alves (R-Sr), Austin Mock (R-Sr), Nick Brown (So), Andrew Johns (R-So), Jason Stricker (R-So), Austin Turner (R-Fr)

The Buzz: After Alex Barbir began the season making just one of four field goals, he was benched in favor of Brayden Beck. The true freshman walk-on made four of his five field goals over the remainder of the season with a long of 43. He showed he has the potential to be a solid kicker for the Flames during his career, but he needs to continue to work on consistency.

Aidan Alves averaged 42.7 yards per punt on his 22 punts during the 2021 season. He did miss a good portion of the year with an injury, and true freshman walk-on Max Morgan stepped in admirably. Morgan averaged 42.9 yards per punt on his 25 strikes during the year. Long snapper Aidan Alves also returns.

Demario Douglas is a potential game-breaker as a returner. He was the team’s top punt returner last season, averaging 6.2 yards per return with a long of 72 and a touchdown. Shedro Louis averaged 20.1 yards per kick return on his 21 returns with a long of 53.

Gone

Duron Lowe (7 kick returns for 146 yards with a long of 34)

DJ Stubbs (5 punt returns for 47 yards with a long of 19, 2 kick returns for 11 yards)
