Liberty has finalized its 2026-27 men’s basketball roster with the addition of Mattthew Shelton, a transfer from Division II Charleston. He is originally from Hillsboro, Virginia and Evergreen Christian High School.

Shelton is a 6’5″ guard with two years of eligibility remaining after playing for two seasons at Charleston where he started in 51 of 55 games played. This past season, Shelton averaged 12.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 52.7% from the field, 34.0% from three, and 69.6% from the free throw line. In his two seasons at Charleston, he made 70 of 211 threes (33.2%) while shooting 72.2% from the charity stripe. Since entering the portal, Shelton had numerous offers including Hofstra, Canisius, New Hampshire, and USC Upstate.

With Shelton’s addition, Liberty has added six additions through the portal. Shelton will join Cooper and Cobi Campbell, Sean Register, Dillon Claussen, and Osmar Garcia-Araujo, as well three incoming freshman – Eli Sasncomb, Eli Herbert, and Reece Davidson – to round out the upcoming season’s roster as the Flames will have 9 new additions to the team.
