Liberty football has picked up its first commitment in the spring transfer portal for 2023 as Akron transfer offensive lineman Xavior Gray has committed to the Flames. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Gray is a 6’9″, 330 pound offensive lineman who is transferring from Akron. He is originally from Massillon, Ohio. Since entering the portal, Gray has picked up offers from Virginia, Houston, Appalachian State, New Mexico, Georgia State, Bowling Green, Kent State, and others. Gray took a visit to Liberty earlier this month and has also taken visits to Houston, Virginia, and Old Dominion. He had the Cavaliers near the top of his list after taking a visit to Charlottesville recently.

Gray began his college career at Akron in 2019, a season he redshirted after playing in four games and making two starts at left tackle. In 2020, Gray started all six games, and in 2021, he played in 10 games with five starts at left tackle. He will immediately be expected to compete for playing time for the Flames, and could push to be the team’s starting left tackle. Out of high school, Gray was a two-star recruit out of Jackson High School. He was a third-team All-Ohio selection.
