It’s weird to say the Flames pulled off the upset at home…but the Flames pulled off the upset at home! Liberty hosted the steaking Duquesne Dukes Saturday and sent them back to Pittsburg with their first loss since August 31st. This wasn’t without adversity though as the Flames dug themselves a three-score hole halfway through the 2nd quarter. After a rough start for K Alex Probert, he nailed a 42-yard field goal in the closing minute of the half which made way for a 20-0 run to close out the game for the Flames.

Offense

MVP: RB Carrington Mosley

Back-to-back MVP awards for Mosley! The senior had a career night, rushing for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns. His first score came midway through the 1st quarter when Liberty faced a 4th and 2 from DU’s 6-yard line. After taking the handoff, Mosley bullied his way through a defensive end and kept moving his feet to the 2-yard line. Then the offensive line joined the party and helped him the rest of the way into the endzone. His second score, the game-winner, came with Liberty down 4 and 4:19 left on the clock. The Flames remain undefeated when they have a 100-yard rusher.

Defense

MVP: LB Lucas Irons

After LB Jaylyn McKinney went down with an injury, the Flames looked to Lucas Irons to take his place. With just under 6 minutes left in the game, Liberty was staring at a 4-point deficit with Duquesne driving. Sitting on their own 15-yard line, QB Tommy Stuart handed the ball off to star RB A.J. Hines who ran outside to the right of the line. Trying to cut back inside for what looked to be a decent gain, Hines kept the ball off of his body and Irons got his hand on it, forcing the fumble. This turnover lead to Mosley’s go-ahead touchdown to win the game for the Flames. Irons also had 4 tackles.
