Liberty’s fall sports are officially underway all over campus, and we will provide weekly updates on all of the teams throughout the semester.

CROSS COUNTRY

Liberty’s Adelyn Fairley raced to an impressive 16th place finish in the women’s blue race, headling the Flames’ morning at the XC23 Pre-Nationals on Saturday at Panorama Farms. Both the Liberty men’s and women’s squads placed 20th overall in the regular season finale.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams will be the first Liberty teams ever to compete for Conference USA titles, doing so on Oct. 28 at Hobson Grove Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The 2023 CUSA Cross Country Championships will begin with the men’s 8K at 10 a.m. and will conclude with the women’s 6K at 11 a.m.

FIELD HOCKEY (14-1, 5-0 Big East)

Liberty scored two fourth quarter goals to top Quinnipiac, 2-1, in Big East action on Friday. With the win, the Lady Flames secured a spot in the 2023 Big East Field Hockey Championship.

The Lady Flames won their 9th straight game on Sunday with a 3-2 win over James Madison on Senior Day.

No. 6 Liberty will return to action on Friday night at 6 p.m. in its final home Big East game, taking on rival UConn.

WOMEN’S SOCCER (13-1-1, 4-1-1 CUSA)

Overcoming a 2-hour delay, Liberty was able to take home a 2-1 win at home on Thursday night over Jacksonville State. On Sunday, Liberty defeated UTEP, 2-1, in a critical CUSA road match.Allison Hansford opened the scoring and Ivy Garner earned the game winning goal that broke a 1-1 tie in the 81′ minute. Following the week, Liberty is in second place in the league standings.

Liberty returns to Lynchburg to host Western Kentucky on Saturday at Osborne Stadium in the team’s final home contest of the season.

MEN’S SOCCER (8-4-1, 3-2-1 OVC)

The Flames struck for two goals in the first nine minutes last Thursday, rolling to a 4-0 victory over Eastern Illinois in an OVC contest. The Flames recorded their first shutout of the season and snapped a two-game losing streak with the win. Michael Huss scored Liberty’s first goal during the game’s fourth minute and Gora Gora netted the Flames’ second goal for a 2-0 advantage just nine minutes into the match.

On Sunday, Liberty and Southern Indiana played to a 1-1 tie. Liberty broke through for its lone goal late in the first as Gabe Findley scored during the 44th minute for a 1-0 advantage. However, Southern Indiana found the equalizer with less than two minutes left to knot the game.

The Flames return home for their final two home matches of the regular season. Liberty will host Lindenwood on Thursday at Osborne Stadium at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Liberty will host Incarnate Word at 1 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL (10-10, 3-5 CUSA)

Liberty posted a pair of sweeps over the weekend at Jacksonville State. With the wins, the Lady Flames improve to 10-10 on the season and 3-5 in conference play, having won three of four matches. Jacksonville State has now been swept in six straight contests after beginning CUSA play 2-0.

Liberty returns home and will host FIU on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. at Liberty Arena.
