Liberty finished the regular season bowl eligible for the first time in program history. There are 78 bowl spots with 79 teams in the running. It is a good chance the Flames will make it to a bowl, but who will Liberty play? Here are the three most likely teams…..

ARKANSAS STATE

If the Flames get picked for the Cure Bowl in Orlando, Florida, it would face a team from the Sun Belt. Arkansas State is one of the most likely. Plus, this game would have the added intrigue with Hugh Freeze having coached at Arkansas State prior to his time at Ole Miss. He was the head coach at Arkansas State in 2011, where he finished 10-3.

GEORGIA STATE or GEORGIA SOUTHERN

Like Arkansas State, both Georgia schools are from the Sun Belt, and all 3 finished with identical 7-5 records. In the most likely scenario that Liberty makes the Cure Bowl, Arkansas State or one of the Georgia schools would likely be on the other end.

We could also see Liberty face any of these three Sun Belt schools in another bowl game if it’s not the Cure.

MARSHALL

The Thundering Herd finished the season with an 8-4 record, and, as we saw earlier today, Marshall has been frequently mentioned as a matchup in a bowl game with the Flames.

Just for fun….Probably not very likely but it is an outside chance the Flames could play in the Music City bowl on 12/30 in Nashville. In 2019, the Music City bowl has a contract to have an ACC team play in that bowl game. That means Liberty could be playing against Miami, Pittsburgh or Virginia Tech.

In 2019, it was a simple goal – make it to a bowl game. Liberty has done their part in getting eligible, we will find out Sunday where they will be headed.

Stay tuned and GO FLAMES!
