We continue our countdown of top 10 storylines entering the 2013 football season today with #2, getting Coastal Carolina at home.

HC Joe Moglia & his Chanticleers will look to repeat as conference champs in 2013

With Stony Brook no longer in the Big South (as we discussed with #4 on this countdown), the two favorites for the conference championship are Liberty and Coastal Carolina. The all-time series between the two Big South powerhouses is knotted at 5 games a piece, but that does not tell the whole story as each team has fared very well at home. Both Coastal and Liberty are 4-1 at home against the other. The average score for the 5 games played at Williams Stadium is 43 – 22 in Liberty’s favor. The Flames only loss to the Chanticleers inside of Williams Stadium came during the dreadful 2005 season where Liberty finished 1-10, and it still took Coastal three overtimes to overcome the Flames. The last two times the Chanticleers have visited Lynchburg? Liberty has won by a combined score of 121-40.

Will the October 19th matchup in Lynchburg prove to be the deciding game in the 2013 conference championship race? We may not know that answer for several months, but if it is then history favors the Flames.
