The Flames drop their 2nd consecutive game in the Challenge in Music City, falling to Western Michigan, 68-58.

  1. Liberty got off to a terrific start, thanks to 3 consecutive 3-pointers from Caleb Homesley early in the first half. Unfortunately, the Broncos answered with a strong 15-4 push to seize control of the game and never look back. Homesley finished with 11 points and was a perfect 3/3 from 3-point range.
  2. The Flames continue to chuck the deep ball under Coach McKay. Liberty shot 31 3-pointers against Western Michigan, knocking down 12 of them. Ryan Kemrite was 4/10 from 3. Kemrite led the Flames with 15 points after having just 2 points against Appalachian State on Thursday.
  3. The Broncos shot over 50% from the field and outrebounded Liberty 34-19.
  4. Lovell Cabbil struggled shooting against Western Michigan as the freshman guard from Texas was 1/7 from 3 and 2/8 from the field. He still found a way to put points on the board though, as Cabbil connected on 5 of his 6 free throw attempts to finish with 10 points on the afternoon.
  5. Evan Maxwell failed to reach double figures for the 2nd consecutive game. The sophomore center attempted just 3 field goals, finishing with 6 points and 4 rebounds in 18 minutes before fouling out.
  6. Hansel Atencia saw just 5 minutes of game action with no recorded stats. Coach McKay still sorting through his rotation? 4 Flames (Reid, Kemrite, Cabbil, Fields) played 30 minutes or more for the first time this season as McKay tightened his rotation seemingly going all out for the win.
  7. Ezra Talbert finished with 11 points after making 3 of his 4 3-point attempts.
  8. This team will have growing pains all season. We can only hope they remain competitive and continue to believe in one another and the coaching staff. That may become the staff’s toughest and most important jobs as the season progresses if Liberty is unable to string together many wins.
  9. The Flames conclude the 3 game trip in Nashville with a 2pm tipoff Sunday afternoon against Tulane.
