Update: According to sources, after the commitment Liberty received on
Saturday from Kaden Metheny, the Flames re no longer pursuing Ortiz.

North Alabama transfer guard Daniel Ortiz has put Liberty in his top six alongside Boston College, Minnesota, Tulane, UAB, and FIU.

Ortiz is a 6’0″, 167 pound guard from Shreveport, Louisiana who has played the past two seasons at North Alabama in the ASUN. He’s played in 63 games while starting 49 in those two seasons. This past year, Ortiz averaged 14.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1 assist per game. He shot 40.9% from three while making 105 three-pointers on the season and was named second team all-ASUN.

Ortiz has heard from Liberty, UAB, Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, Austin Peay, Hofstra, Minnesota, Louisiana-Monroe, Eastern Kentucky, Loyola Chicago, Omaha, Southern, Hampton, Youngstown State, Indiana State, UT Arlington, and others.

On Saturday, Liberty added a commitment from Bowling Green transfer Kaden Metheny, a 5’11” guard. With his addition, the Flames currently have two scholarships available for next season.
