Peter Aluma or Julius Nwosu? Caleb Homesley or Larry Blair? Old school or new school? Debates over who is the greatest Liberty basketball player can vary, and we have done our best to identify the best of the best, ranking the greatest players in school history.

With hundreds of basketball players to suit up for the Flames over the years, just making this list is a huge honor, but who will be in the coveted top spot? Factors given include individual talent, individual accomplishments, and team accomplishments.

25. Mark Chafin, 1975-78

20. Ryan Kemrite, 2015-18

Kemrite is one of the most decorated three-point shooters in school history. He currently holds the career marks for most three-pointers made (258) and three point field goal percentage (43.0%). Kemrite also holds the record for single season three point field goal percentage with a 45.2% clip during the 2017-18 season. He currently ranks No. 22 on the all-time scoring list and is in the top 50 on the career rebounding list.

19. Antwan Burrus, 2010-14

Burrus is one of the better back to the basket players in the history of the program. If he got the ball on the block, it was almost an automatic bucket. He currently ranks No. 23 in school history with 1,170 points while his 616 rebounds ranks 12th all-time.

18. Gabe Martin, 2003-04

Martin only spent two seasons at Liberty after transferring in as a JUCO product, but he made a lasting impact on the program as he was a key part of the 2004 Big South Championship team that advanced to the program’s second ever NCAA Tournament. He was named first-team all-Big South in both years on campus and still ranks in the top 35 in both scoring and rebounds. His nine boards against St. Joe’s in the 2004 NCAA Tournament are still a program record in an NCAA Tournament game.

17. Alex McLean, 2007-08

Also a Junior College transfer, McLean scored 954 points (No. 32 all-time) and grabbed 557 rebounds (No. 15 all-time) in his two seasons with the Flames. He was named first-team all-Big South in 2008 as he became one of the best big men in the conference and in program history.

16. Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz, 2017-20

He finished his career as the winningest player in program history as Pacheco=Ortiz was the starting point guard for the biggest turnaround in school history. He started all four seasons he played for the Flames and guided the team to two regular season and tournament championships, and he is the only starting point guard in program history to guide his team to an NCAA Tournament win. He currently ranks No. 18 on the school’s all-time scoring list and No. 11 in career assists, as well as in the top 50 of the career bound list.
