Another edition of the ASOR Mailbag! Thank you for submitting your questions and continue to send them in and we will be happy to answer them in our next feature. You can send them to us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, e-mail, or as a comment on the site. We had a ton of great questions this week, so let’s get right to it.

A question from Steve on the website – Why were CJ Yarbrough and Treon Sibley left off of the spring depth chart? Are they hurt or are they entering the transfer portal?

As we’ve reported previously on the Rumor Mill, CJ Yarbrough is no longer with the team. The wide receiver opted to no longer play football and move forward with his life following the sport. You may remember he did this once before as he was not part of the team for 2021 spring practice and also missing the 2021 season before returning to the team in 2022.

Treon Sibley is with the team and practicing. He will be part of the mix at receiver this coming season. Sibley has been primarily working with the second team during the portion of spring practices that have been open to the public. We will have an updated depth chart following the conclusion of spring practice as this has been our first chance to see the team under Coach Chadwell and the rest of the coaching staff.

Senegal native Mamadou Cissokho committed to Liberty last summer under the previous coaching staff even though he had never played football. Cissokho attempted to get a VISA to move to the United States for his senior year of high school to play football and begin preparing for his college career. He was never able to get his VISA approved and did not make his way over to the states. It doesn’t seem like that has changed and I wouldn’t expect him to end up at Liberty, especially with the coaching change.

ethanbryannnnt on Instagram asks, how many transfers has Liberty contacted?

We have been transferring the public list of names that Liberty has contacted in the portal, but we have also heard that the actual list is much longer than that and the Flames’ coaching staff reaches out to nearly every one who enters the portal.

jpdoucet7 on Instagram asks, basketball transfer predictions?

The Flames have already picked up a commitment from Kaden Metheny, a transfer from Bowling Green. That leaves two open scholarships and my best guess now is that only one of those would be filled from the portal. I do think that a top target for the Flames in the portal is a big and I am hopeful and confident that North Carolina transfer Will Shaver could end up in a Liberty uniform.

mikepeso_ on Instagram asks, startling lineup predictions for basketball?

I broke down the 2023-24 basketball roster earlier this week the way it currently stands, so be sure to check that out. Colin Porter, Joseph Venzant, and Kyle Rode can be penciled in as starters entering the season. The other two spots are a bit of a toss-up right now.

To take over as a guard alongside Porter and in place of Darius McGhee, my guess today is Metheny. He has been a starter at Bowling Green for his entire career and I expect him to have a big role for the Flames. I still think a transfer big will end up with Liberty and hopefully he is good enough to start. I will say the Flames get Shaver and he is a starter next season.

Other names that could crack into the starting lineup include Brody Peebles, Curtis Blair, Shiloh Robinson, and Zach Cleveland.

nikolismoore on Instagram asks, what are McGhee’s draft prospects?

This is a great question and one I’ve been grappling with myself recently. He certainly has the offensive game to get a shot in the NBA but his size will be the biggest hold back. I wouldn’t be shocked if McGhee is able to slide into the 2nd round of the draft, but I would guess he goes undrafted. Which that could be the best case scenario for Darius, giving him the opportunity to sign with a team he thinks gives him the best chance at making a roster.

zanybaseball4 on Instagram asks, hitting coach getting fired soon?

Look, nobody will pretend the baseball team is having a successful season thus far, but it’s a bit of a stretch to insinuate anyone should lose their job. We’re only about halfway through the year, hopefully they can turn things around soon.
