Update: Head Coach Turner Gill has officially announced Alex Probert is out with a lower body injury. He also announces a 1 game suspension for Damian King, first half suspensions for Juwan Wells, Vincent Elefante, and Brandon Tillmon.

Kicker Alex Probert is out due to injury, and several Liberty football players face a team suspension for the team’s season opener against Old Dominion, sources told ASOR. Damian King is suspended for the entire game, while several defensive players will miss time, including Juwan Wells, Corbin Jackson, and Ceneca Espinoza, Jr.

Probert, Liberty’s starting kicker for the last 2 seasons, has missed most of training camp due to injury, an injury that will keep him out of Saturday’s game against the Monarchs. Aaron Peart is listed as his backup on this week’s depth chart. Peart was a late addition to the roster this summer as a JUCO transfer from Sierra College. He’s originally from Purcellville, Virginia. In 10 games last season at Sierra, Peart was 3-for-5 on field goals with a long of 41 and 38-for-41 on extra points.

“He has a pretty good leg,” Coach Gill said earlier this week of Peart. “I’ve been impressed with him just coming here and showing up and doing some things. I think he has a good chance to be successful. I like what he’s all about.”

King has been one of Buckshot’s top targets the past couple of seasons, and he is expected to make a big impact during his senior season. Juwan Wells, perhaps the team’s best defensive player, will miss the first half. Jackson is expected to miss the first quarter, and Espinoza will only miss the first series of the game, which will leave the Flames extremely thin at SPUR.
