Flames continue to struggle

Road woes
At 9-19 it’s hard to find many positives, but the Flames have been dreadful away from the Vines Center. Liberty is 1-12 this season on the road, 1-6 against Big South opponents. The Flames have just one more true road game this season, on Saturday afternoon against Campbell.

Close games
The Flames have also had difficulty winning close games. In games decided by 10 points or less, Liberty is 3-12 including losses in their last 6 close games. Liberty did defeat Campbell by 3 in the first meeting.

Lady Flames update
After losing to Presbyterian last week, the Lady Flames rebounded with wins over Gardner-Webb and UNC-Asheville to move to 16-10 on the season and 12-5 in conference play with just 3 regular season games remaining.

Baseball struggles out the gate
Liberty’s baseball team has struggled to a 1-3 start to the 2014 season with a win over Richmond and losses to North Florida, South Florida, and Old Dominion. Jim Toman and company head to Wilmington, North Carolina this weekend for the UNCW Tournament where they will face Ohio and UNC-Wilmington twice each.

Richardson picks up first win
Liberty softball and new head coach Dot Richardson picked up a pair of victories this week, their first of the season. The Lady Flames defeated Norfolk State and UMBC to improve their record to 2-6 on the season.

Braxton Bonds named District MVP
Liberty basketball signee Braxton Bonds was named All-District MVP in Tennessee for his impressive season. Bonds led Christ Presbyterian Academy to an unblemished District record en route to their District championship last weekend.

Stavian Allen playing in Lynchburg
Speaking of basketball signees, Stavian Allen will be playing the Genesis Academy in Lynchburg on Saturday at 4pm. If you’re able, you should check him out, he’s sure to have a couple rim-rocking dunks!

Jennings & Brown return to Liberty
Former Liberty football standouts Rashad Jennings and Mike Brown return to Lynchburg this weekend for a series of events open to the public. You can read the full release on the official site here.

Realignment news!
FlamesNation always loves realignment news, in the latest development, Texas State insider Brent Thibodeaux hinted that Liberty has improved it’s position with the current Sun Belt members. Liberty is hoping to become the 12th member of the current 11-football member Sun Belt Conference.
