Liberty has all but officially concluded their stay in the ASUN, a place the Flames called home for the past five athletic seasons.

There were many big moments for Liberty in the ASUN as the athletic program continued to take huge leaps forward on the national landscape. Here are a few that stand out:

MEN’S HOOPS BEATS LIPSCOMB FOR 2019 CHAMPIONSHIP

Back before Liberty established itself as one of the top mid-major programs in the country, the Flames knocked off Lipscomb to win its first ASUN men’s basketball championship. The Bisons were the heavy favorites in the ASUN as reigning champs and went on to the NIT final, but the Flames got the win in Nashville that day.

BASEBALL WINS 2019 CHAMPIONSHIP

Liberty baseball helped cap a tremendous first year in the ASUN for the athletic department by winning the 2019 conference championship to advance to an NCAA Regional. Similar to basketball, it was the launching point of the program to national relevance as the program advanced to three straight regionals, including two as an at-large.

MEN’S HOOPS THREE-PEATS

After winning championships in 2019 and 2020, the Flames, under head coach Ritchie McKay, had to learn their way without the likes of Caleb Homesley, Scottie James, Myo Baxter-Bell, and Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz. Darius McGhee would step into the spotlight, winning his first of three straight ASUN Player of the Year awards, in leading the Flames to the championship at UNF Arena, a third straight as the dynasty continued.

BASEBALL STARTS 2021 CONFERENCE PLAY 19-1

Coach Scott Jackson and the Flames were dominant in ASUN play in 2021, winning 19 of 20 games to begin league play. Liberty would fall in the ASUN Tournament but their dominant play in the regular season would help catapult them to an at-large into NCAA Regional play.

MEN’S TENNIS WINS 2021 ASUN TITLE

A top 50 program nationally on the season, Liberty defeated FGCU, 4-0, for its first ASUN title. The conference championship was the first in program history. With 20 wins on the season, that also set a school record win total.

SOFTBALL FINISHES 2022 REGULAR SEASON 23-1 IN ASUN PLAY

Softball has seen a tremendous rise in national prominence during its time in the ASUN. in 2022, the Lady Flames finished 23-1 in conference play after starting 23-0 before losing the regular season finale. That dominance would continue into the postseason as Liberty won the ASUN Tournament.

LACROSSE DEFEATS JACKSONVILLE, FINISHES 2023 REGULAR SEASON UNBEATEN

Jacksonville has been the gold standard for ASUN women’s lacrosse for a long time. The Dolphins were the one hurdle that the Lady Flames had not been able to overcome. This past spring, Liberty was able to knock off Jacksonville to finish the 2023 regular season unbeaten in conference play.

JONATHAN YAUN WINS 2023 INDIVIDUAL GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

Jonathan Yaun was the highlight of the men’s golf team during the 2023 ASUN Championship. His 18-under par 198 was the lowest individual 54-hole total in program history as he won the individual golf championship helping the Flames to also win the team title.

These are just a few of the high water marks for Liberty Athletics over the past five seasons as nearly every sport on campus have had their share of success during this time. Which one stands out the most for you?
