With the transfer portal dominating headlines throughout college sports the past couple of years, every team loses and adds some players through it each season.

We are six games into the new season under head coach Jamey Chadwell and have reached the halfway point. With the Flames currently in a bye week, this provides us an opportunity to check in on all the transfers Liberty added to its roster following the 2025 season:

QB Deshawn Purdie

Purdie has settled in as Liberty’s starter after winning the job just ahead of the season opener. He has had his ups and downs, but Purdie seems to be growing in confidence and his ability to lead this offense. Through six games, he has completed 70 of 114 passes for 1,050 yards with 8 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He is one of only a handful of quarterbacks in the country with that many touchdown passes and no interceptions thus far. Purdie has also picked up 90 yards rushing thus far.

QB Jaylen Henderson

Henderson lost the QB battle but has worked as Purdie’s primary backup. He also came in during the second half of the Gardner-Webb game when Purdie was struggled and led the Flames to a come from behind win. He threw a touchdown pass in the closing minutes to help lift Liberty to the win. On the season, Henderson is 5 of 13 passing for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. He’s also rushed for 27 yards.

RB Kam Davis

Davis has been the breakout back for the Flames so far this season. In consecutive road games at Coastal Carolina and Delaware, he rushed for over 150 yards in each. On the season, Davis has carried the ball 74 times for 524 yards and 4 touchdowns, leading the team in rushing while also rushing for 7.1 yards per carry.

RB Peyton Jones

Jones was Liberty’s starting running back to begin the season, and he continues to be used frequently. He has 56 rushes for 259 yards and a touchdown while averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

RB Terron Kellman

Kellman is playing behind Davis and Jones, but he does typically get into the game at some point. On the season, he has 21 rushes for 115 yards and a touchdown while averaging 5.5 yards per carry.

RB Kanye Udoh

Udoh is down the depth chart a little bit which is somewhat of a surprise. He rushed for over 1,000 yards at Army a couple seasons ago. Through the first half of the season, Udoh has 7 carries for 39 yards, averaging 5.6 yards per carry.

WR Makai Jackson

Jackson has been a breakout for the Flames at receiver, leading the team in receiving with 22 catches for 515 yards and 5 touchdowns.

WR Rashawn Cunningham

Cunningham’s full impact can’t be summed up by his stats. He has 2 receptions for 17 yards, but he has been utilized in the run blocking scheme from his wide receiver position. Cunningham has been one of the receivers most frequently on the field through the first half of the season.

TE LaKelsey Johnson, Jr.

Johnson has 4 catches for 61 yards and has been one of Liberty’s highest graded offensive players this season.

TE Zeke Wimbush

Wimbush has made a big impact in the receiving game, with 7 receptions for 88 yards.

Hopkins has been a starter for the Flames at safety. He currently has 18 tackles and 1 pass breakup.

S Izaiah Guy

CB Ashton McShane

McShane has played in all 6 games this season and has 12 tackles while carving out a role for himself at corner.

DE Michael Floyde

Floyde has been a huge boon to the defensive line, particularly in his ability to pressure opposing team’s backfields. He has 10 tackles, 5 of them for loss, 1.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and a QB hurry.

S Jayden Davis

Davis has 8 tackles, 1 interception, and a pass breakup for the Flames through the first six games.

DE Lorenzo Payne

Payne has teamed with Floyde to provide an uptick in production for the Flames at defensive end. He currently has 7 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 1 QB hurry, and a fumble recovery.

LB Kyle Ferm

Ferm has been a depth piece for the Flames at linebacker so far this season. He has 6 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in 5 games played.

DB Ashton Whitner

Whitner has played in 4 games so far this season. He has 5 tackles and 1 tackle for loss.

CB Prince Cottonham

RB Justin Marshall

Marshall suffered a leg injury just ahead of the start of the season and will miss the entire year.
