Liberty opened the 2025 season with a 28-7 win over Maine on Saturday evening to open the year at 1-0. Following the game, head coach Jamey Chadwell met with the media. Here is his opening statement.

“We’re obviously pleased with the victory. I think it’s always challenging in today’s world in your game one because you’ve got so many new parts to mesh with. I was really pleased with how our guys played with heart the whole four quarters. We did a good job of not beating ourselves. We knew it would be a four quarter battle. There in the second half, we were able to outscore them 21-0. I was pleased with how we finished. I think there are some other things we have to improve on. For the first game, it gives us a chance to see who can play under the lights, who you can trust, and who maybe needs to improve in certain areas and what we need to do to get better. We know we have to get better. It’s hard to win. It’s hard to get a good win. I tell our team all the time, ‘We are going to get the best shot of everybody we play no matter who it is.’ We have to be ready to play to not only meet that standard but raise that standard in the way we play. I thought we played relatively clean. Really pleased with our defense. A couple misfits on some runs hurt us, but anytime they got something there in the 2nd quarter on and got close down there, we got a turnover or buckled up. I was pleased with how they played overall.”
