With tonight being the NBA Draft, we thought it would be fun to look back at Liberty players who have been drafted. There have been 2 Liberty basketball players that have been drafted by the NBA: Ezra Hill and Cliff Webber. Hill and Webber were drafted in consecutive years, 1984 and 1985, respectively.

Hill was drafted in 1984 as the 12th pick in the 10th round by the Phoenix Suns. Hill’s an interesting story as he only played one season with the Flames, in 1977. He saw playing time in 13 games while at Liberty where he averaged 10 points, 2 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game while shooting 45.3% from the  field.

Weber was drafted in 1985 as the 23rd pick in the 4th round (93rd overall) by the Boston Celtics. Weber was named a Division II All-American in 1985 by Basketball Times. During his career with the Flames (1981-85), Weber averaged 12.1 points and 7.5 boards while shooting nearly 52% from the field. He had a breakout senior campaign where he averaged 18.6 points and 11.4 rebounds. Weber was a 6’9″ power forward.

Neither Hill or Weber ever saw any playing time in the NBA. The only Liberty basketball players to ever get playing time in the NBA are Julius Nwosu and Peter Aluma.

Nwosu played in 23 games during the 1994-95 season for the San Antonio Spurs. He scored 31 points, grabbed 24 rebounds, and recorded 3 blocks. He even got 7 minutes of playing time in 2 games in the playoffs. While at Liberty, Nwosu averaged 14.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.29 blocks.

Aluma played in 2 games in 1999 for the Sacramento Kings. He scored 2 points and grabbed 2 rebounds in 5 minutes played. While at Liberty, Aluma averaged 14.4 points and 5.7 rebounds. He is still Liberty’s career blocked shot leader.
