When Liberty accepted an invitation to the Cure Bowl on Sunday, the Flames become the fifth team to receive a bowl invitation during its first full season at the FBS level.

It’s fitting that Liberty will play Georgia Southern in the Cure Bowl, as the Flames and Eagles are both in the category. GSU made the GoDaddy Bowl in Mobile, Alabama in 2015, its first year as a full FBS member.

In addition to Georgia Southern, Liberty joins Appalachian State (2015, Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama), Nevada (1992, Las Vegas Bowl), and Marshall (1997, Motor City Bowl) as the only schools to play in a bowl game in the first year of FBS competition.

We all know Hugh Freeze is good football coach, but how good is he? We reported earlier in the week, that LU was set to make Freeze one of the highest paid G5 coaches in the country. Is he worth that kind of money? Yes, he is.

Liberty is now the third team he has taken to a bowl game, doing so in his first year at all three stops. In his first year at Arkansas State he went 10-2 and took them to the GoDaddy.com Bowl. At Ole Miss, Freeze and the Rebels made the BBVA Compass Bowl in 2012, his first season there. It was the first of four straight bowl games at Ole Miss, as he followed that year up with trips to the Music City, Peach, and Sugar bowls.
