The transfer portal has had a huge impact on college sports over the past few seasons. The Liberty Flames have also had a few notable transfers leave in recent years, here’s a quick update on where they have landed and how they have performed:

Bryson Spell

After three years at Liberty, Spell transferred to Elon this season. In 22 games played, he is averaging 7.1 minutes and 1.3 points per game. The Phoenix are currently 14-13 on the season and 6-8 in the CAA.

Owen Aquino

After one year with the Flames, Aquino transferred to High Point and is part of a Panthers team that is currently at the top of the Big South with a 24-4 overall record and 12-1 mark in conference play. Aquino has played in all 28 games, he is averaging 26.1 minutes, 9.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 55.5% from the field and 41.7% (10-of-24) from three

Will Gibson

After one year at Liberty, Gibson transferred to Division II Cedarville where he is playing for former Liberty associate head coach Rob Jones. Gibson has started 23 of 24 games played, averaging 22.5 minutes, 6.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 51.1% from the field and 2 of 6 from three.

Curtis Blair, III

Blair is also at Cedarville. He is averaging 16.5 minutes, 5.1 points, and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 41.3% from the field and 24.2% from three.

Kai Yu

The big man transferred to Bradley this season where he has played in 22 games, averaging 8.0 minutes, 2.5 points, and 1.9 rebounds per game for the Braves who are currently 18-9 overall and 11-5 in the Missouri Valley.

Joseph Venzant

Venzant transferred to Abilene Christian a year ago, starting 5 of 6 games he played in while averaging 20.5 minutes, 2.2 points, and 3.7 rebounds per game before suffering a season ending injury. That injury allowed him to come back this season as he has played in 26 games, averaging 26 minutes, 4.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 52.7% from the field and 46.2% from three. Venzant and the Wildcats are currently 12-14 on the season and 4-9 in the WAC.

Jaylen Davis

After one year at Liberty where he redshirted, Davis transferred to Division II Cedarville a year ago, playing for former Liberty associate head coach Rob Jones. In his second season at Cedarville, Davis is averaging 26.8 minutes, 13.6 points, and 3.1 rebounds per game while shooting 43.3% from the field and 37.8% from three. Cedarville is currently 11-13 on the season and 6-10 in conference play.

Ben Southerland

Southerland transferred to Wright State last season where he played just 6 minutes in 4 games. After going back in the portal, Southerland transferred to Division II Tampa where he has played in 12 games where he is averaging 5.3 points per game.

DJ Moore

The former Liberty point guard transferred to NAIA Indiana Wesleyan. After appearing in just five games during the 2022-23 season, Moore played in 33 games a year ago including 14 starts. He averaged 19.1 minutes, 6.3 points, and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 50% from three. Last season, Moore played in 24 games while starting 19. He averaged 23.1 minutes, 8.0 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game while shooting 47.8% from the field and 42.5% from three. This year, Moore has sstarted all 25 games while averaging 27.6 minutes, 8.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game. He set a program record earlier this season with 17 assists in a single game.
