Liberty is currently a 3-point road favorite against Western Kentucky as the Flames and Hilltoppers prepare for a crucial game in in the Conference USA championship race.

Additionally, following Liberty’s 7-0 start to the 2023 season, the Flames are just outside of the Associated Press Top 25 poll, as was released on Sunday.

The Flames are 5-0 in conference play entering Tuesday’s game at WKU. Meanwhile, Western Kentucky, the preseason CUSA favorite, is 2-1 in league play following their loss at Jacksonville State last Tuesday. The Hilltoppers are 4-3 overall.

Tuesday’s game will mark the 8th consecutive game where the Flames have been listed as a favorite to open the 2023 season under first year head coach Jamey Chadwell. Kickoff in Bowling Green, Kentucky is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. eastern and will be televised on ESPNU.

Liberty received 17 points in the AP Top 25 poll this week and are effectively ranked No. 27 and just two spots outside of the Top 25.

The Flames are now just one of nine remaining unbeaten teams in the country. All other eight unbeaten teams are currently ranked in the Top 25. Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State, Washington, and Oklahoma are all undefeated and ranked No. 1 through No. 6. Air Force is ranked No. 19 and James Madison has checked into the Top 25 at No. 25 as both are also unbeaten.

In the Coaches’ Poll this week, Liberty received 8 votes and is effectively ranked No. 35.

Liberty spent two weeks ranked in the Top 25 poll last season, rising as high as No. 19. The Flames first entered the FBS Top 25 poll during the 2020 season and climbed to as high as No. 17 at the end of the season following the team’s 10-1 record.
