Liberty has picked up a commitment from Kentucky transfer offensive tackle Naasir Watkins. The 6’5″, 305 pound lineman has one season of eligibility remaining.

Watkins, originally from Laurel, Maryland where he attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic High School, was a three-star offensive line prospect coming out of high school. His offer list at the time included Kentucky, Baylor, Bowling Green, Coastal Carolina, Ohio, Old Dominion, Pitt, Temple, and Virginia.

He redshirted during the 2017 season, played in 11 games while making one start during his redshirt-freshman season in 2018. Watkins played in all 13 games in 2019 and was second string for both tackle positions. In 2020, he only played in one game due to a knee injury.

This past year, Watkins missed spring practice and was suspended for the first four games of the season and never saw the field following his suspension. No reason was given for his suspension.

Watkins is the third transfer offensive linemen that has joined Liberty’s class of 2022. He joins JUCO offensive tackle Reggie Young and Colorado State center Cam Reddy.
