Liberty has picked up a commitment from Georgia Tech transfer defensive lineman Grey Carroll following a weekend visit to campus in Virginia.

The 6’3″, 255 pound Carroll, was a three-star recruit and the No. 21 player in the state of Tennessee for the 2020 class. He won the Tennessee Titans Class 3A Mr. Football as a senior in high school and was a two-time Mr. Football finalist. He had 67 tackles, 23.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, two forced fumbles, and two blocked punts in 13 games as a senior. He also won four straight state championships.

Carroll, who has three seasons of eligibility remaining has not accumulated any stats during his time at Georgia Tech despite playing in seven games this past season. His first year in Atlanta, Carroll redshirted and did not make an appearance during 2021 as he was sidelined with a serious leg injury.

The redshirt-sophomore got into seven games in 2022, mainly on special teams. He played seven snaps on defense and one as a fullback on offense against Western Carolina.

At the very least, Carroll will be able to provide depth for the Flames on the defensive line this fall. He is expected to play defensive end and could also slide into the Joker position. He will be in the mix among several youngsters looking for playing time on the outside including TJ Bush, C.J. Bazile, Miyon Conaway, Donovan Dozier, and others.
