The early signing period for men’s basketball begins today and runs through November 15, 2017. Coach McKay and the Flames have 3 early verbals in the class of 2018, Darius McGhee, Josh Price, and Blake Preston.

Darius McGhee committed to Liberty in March. The 5’9″ guard is originally from Roxboro, North Carolina where he averaged 36.4 points per game while shooting 53% from during the 2015-16 season. For his junior and senior season, he has transferred to Blue Ridge School in St. Georgie, Virginia. McGhee averaged 14 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.2 steals per game while shooting 41% from 3 last year at Blue Ridge. He also helped Blue Ridge win the 2017 state championship. McGhee also had offers from High Point, Campbell, George Mason, and Longwood.

McKay on McGhee: “Darius may be small in stature but he has a huge heart and a great ability to impact the outcome of a game in a variety of ways. Not only can he score the ball but he is a terrific defender and another one that is a beautiful person.”

Josh Price, the son of Mark Price, committed to Liberty just last week. Josh is a senior at Carmel Christian School in Charlotte, North Carolina. He transferred there for his senior season after playing at Charlotte Christian High School where he was a teammate of Blake Preston. Price’s older brother, Hudson, is a 6’7″ guard at Charlotte where he plays for his dad.

McKay on Price: “For us to find a player of Josh’s availability at such a late date is truly an incredible blessing. He has great blood lines and fits the mold of what we love about players and people. We are elated to bring Josh into our family and the future I think that he will have.”

The 6’9″, 220 pound Blake Preston committed to Liberty in May. He also had offers from UNC Greensboro, Charlotte, Elon, Lipscomb, Mercer, Wofford, and Campbell. This past season he averaged 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game while shooting 52% from the field.

McKay on Preston: “Blake could be a high major recruit with the upside that we project him to have. He has good size with exceptional hands and a good touch. As he continues to develop his strength, he has a very high ceiling.”
