The question comes up every Fall, which incoming freshmen have the best chance to play? With 23 (well 22 without Zac Parker) incoming true freshman, there are sure to be some who do see some playing time in 2013. We try to tackle the question as to which ones.

Offensive Line
Dylan Brucki
Avery Easton
Lucas Holder
Michael Henderman
Jesse Karnezis
Blanchard Sanwouo
Kris Wilson

Offensive line was clearly a focus of the coaching staff for the class of 2013, and the Flames desperately need depth up front. Certainly there will be one or two true freshman which make their way onto the 2-deep this Fall, but it is still very early to predict who.

Defensive Line
Spencer Cook
Ja’Ron Greene
Leo Hunt, Jr.
Marc Wilson

Expect one or two defensive lineman to get into the mix behind Francis Bah and Jibrille Fewell this Fall. Again, trying to predict who plays, is still too early.

Wide Receiver
Justin Fritts

Even with the receiver position up for grabs, don’t expect Fritts’ redshirt to be burned. There are enough capable guys without burning a year of eligibility on Justin.

Cornerback
Justin Guillory
Tyrin Holloway
Wesley Scott

If you would have asked me a week or two ago, I would have told you no way any true freshman cornerback gets playing time this year. Now with Sorie Bayoh out for an extended period of time, there could be an opening for a true freshman to slide into that 4th CB spot. My bets are on Kansas/Tennessee State transfer Chris Robinson to grab that spot instead of burning one of these guy’s redshirt year for a 4th CB spot behind Walt Aikens, Kevin Fogg, and Kenny Scott.

Running Back
Josh Smith
Todd Macon

The Flames have plenty of depth at running back with Desmond Rice, Clifton Richardson, and D.J. Abnar and possibly even Aldreakis Allen. So, unless either of these guys are simply too good to keep off the field, both will redshirt.

Quarterback
Stephon Masha

The question here lies with Woodrum’s health and the coaching staff’s confidence in Shashaty, but I would expect Masha to redshirt.

Safety
Nick Newman
Gary Sampson

There is certainly an opening opposite Jacob Hagen, and word around camp is Newman is turning heads.

Linebacker
John Nick Setterlind
Dexter Robbins

Kind of the same thinking as with the running backs, unless one of these guys is simply too good to keep off the field, both will redshirt.
