With the news today of Liberty and Appalachian State scheduling a home-and-home football series in a very attractive regional matchup against a top Group of Five team, it got us wondering what are some of the other schools Liberty would love to start a series with.

We came up with a list of the top 5 most attractive teams Liberty would like to schedule a home-and-home series (includes 2-for-1) with in the coming years on the gridiron. Of course, none of the teams already announced on a future football schedule is included.

Liberty AD Ian McCaw and his staff have already done a terrific job of scheduling many marquee matchups that would be on this list if not already scheduled including Old Dominion, Army, Coastal Carolina, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Appalachian State, Wake Forest, Duke, Georgia Southern, and North Carolina.

Please note this is a realistic list and therefore Notre Dame is not included. They aren’t coming to Williams Stadium any time soon.

CENTRAL FLORIDA

UCF has quickly become one of the preeminent G5s in the country with undefeated regular seasons in 2017 and 2018, both seasons they ended in a New Year’s Six bowl game.

EAST CAROLINA

The Pirates have struggled much of the past decade, but they are one of the more storied G5 programs in the region and have a huge following in Eastern North Carolina. Under former JMU head coach Mike Houston, they’re likely to surge towards the top of the AAC over the next few years.

MARYLAND

Liberty has scheduled 2-for-1s with just about all of the P5 programs in Virginia and North Carolina over the coming years. Maryland is in the Flames’ recruiting footprint and one of the few P5s Liberty doesn’t already have scheduled in the region.

NAVY

Liberty University has always had a strong affinity for the military, and the Flames have already inked deals with fellow FBS Independent Army. Time to get Navy on the schedule as well.

N.C. STATE

The Flames travel to Raleigh in 2020, but the Wolfpack have yet to agree to a trip to Lynchburg.
