We continue our Summer shoot around series today with redshirt-freshman wing Wesley Alcegaire.

Alcegaire redshirted during the 2012-13 season so (obviously) he doesn’t have any recorded stats with the Flames. He came to Liberty following his four year career at Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School in Miami, Florida. As a senior, he was named to the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches 3A All-State team and first team All-Dade County. While averaging 28 points, 11 rebounds, and nearly 6 assists per game, he led his team to a 27-3 record and district championship. In last year’s media guide, coach Dale Layer described Wes as “long and could be a defensive stopper. He is athletic and scores the ball in multiple positions and has a great upside. He is beginning to figure out college basketball and once he grows and matures, he is going to be a really good player.”

With so much returning talent, it is difficult to imagine Wes having a role with the 2013-14 Liberty basketball team. However, the Flames do not have a true 3-man on their team after the graduation of Trap Speaks, so there is room. More likely though, Coach Layer will decide to go small with 3 guards, or play big on occasion by sliding Tomasz Gielo to the 3.

His high school statistics are very impressive, but will they ever translate into the Division I college game? I guess we will just have to wait and see.
