Backup QB Javan Shashaty

The Flames loosened up a bit for their final practice before the spring game. They went back to shorts as they will have plenty of contact in practice tomorrow.

A couple of the defensive backs switched practice jerseys with the D-linemen. Let’s just say Kevin Fogg and Walt Aiken’s jerseys don’t exactly flatter Jibrille Fewell and Cory Freeman. The move drew some good natured laughs when Fewell’s jersey was back on punt return.

Though the Flames had their fun yesterday, they also got down to business in preparing for tomorrow’s spring game. Based on the practice, here will be a few things to check out firsthand at the spring game:

Offense
The receivers had their strongest outing of the year yesterday afternoon, hauling in multiple tiptoe grabs and jump balls. With Woodrum looking like a really solid leader, don’t be shocked if it’s the air attack that has the most success, despite the Flames strong defensive backfield. Also, look forward to watching running backs Desmond Rice and D.J. Abnar. Their performance of late indicates that they could have big years next fall.

Defense
The defensive unit exemplifies great unity and intensity day after day of practice. This is a very fun unit to watch and is full of playmakers. Though it was difficult to see much, due to the two hand touch rules, the defensive lineman finally got in some running lanes at practice. This group has a lot of potential, but we haven’t seen too much from them until yesterday. Hopefully this new surge will be a continuing trend.

Make sure to check out the Flames progress at tomorrow’s 1:00 game.
