Now that we are on the home stretch of the spring practice season, practice has become a little more routine, but don’t mistake this for complacency. The receivers have shown the biggest surge of maturity since the start of practice.

  • Darrin Peterson and Dante Shells have looked better and better at receiver. Peterson made an awesome breakaway grab at yesterday’s practice. These two need to continue to step up if they hope to fill the void left by last year’s departures.
  • Greg Pratt has a great knack for getting open downfield, but still has to work on his hands.
  • Gabe Henderson could possibly be the most athletic guy on the squad. His route running has been superb and his hands have made him a very trustworthy receiver. He has also been a natural at return man and may contribute on special teams.

Special teams have the highest likelihood, per play, to create scores or turnovers, making this one of the most emphasized portions of the Flames practices. Here are a few notes:

  • Grant Bowden will be punting while John Lunsford kicks for the Flames.
  • Bowden was booting punts up to 70+ (55+ from the line of scrimmage)yards in the air yesterday, even with a rush.
  • Richard Wright has exhibited great consistency in his long snapping, and is among the most reliable pieces on the unit.
  • Many players have fielded kicks this spring, but Kevin Fogg and Gabe Henderson have looked quite a bit more comfortable than others.
