Here are our Big South Football Power Rankings which we will update each week during the season.

Note: Last week’s ranking in parenthesis.

1. (1) Coastal Carolina 7-0, 1-0

Last week: CCU 40, PC 28

The Chanticleers opened conference play with a road win. Yes, it was a relatively close game against Presbyterian, but a win is a win. And this Presby team is better than they have been recently. Alex Ross threw for 258 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win. Coastal enters their bye week undefeated and ranked in the top 5 of the country. Will they run the table?

2. (2) Charleston Southern 5-1, 0-0

Last week: Vanderbilt 21, CSU 20

Was Charleston Southern’s 1 point loss the most impressive nonconference performance by a Big South team this season? Maybe. Losing to an SEC team, even a bad SEC team, by just 1 point is impressive for a Big South team. The Buccaneers had a legitimate chance to win the game too. CSU outgained Vandy 389-285. We’ll get a good barometer test on the Bucs this weekend when they host PC.

3. (3) Monmouth 5-1, 0-0

Last week: Monmouth 61, Columbia 28

Monmouth has been very explosive on offense this season. The Hawks scored 61 points and led 61-7 at the start of the 4th quarter before Columbia closed the game with 21 straight points. Monmouth has scored 50 or more points in 3 of their 6 games this year. Monmouth’s opponents are 9-25 on the year with their only loss coming against the only team they have faced with a winning record, Dartmouth.

4. (4) Liberty 4-3, 0-0

Last week: Liberty 55, Appalachian State 48 OT

In their 2nd consecutive overtime game, Liberty comes out on top this time as they beat App State 55-48. It was the Flames’ 3rd ever win over an FBS opponent, and stopped a 2 game losing skid.  LU was unable to stop the Mountaineers, giving up over 600 yards of total offense on the afternoon, but the defense came up with an interception in the end zone in overtime to give the Flames the win. Josh Woodrum threw for 356 yards and 2 touchdowns.
