With the Post Spring Practice Depth Chart posted, we thought we would spend the next several days taking an in-depth look at it. We’ll start today with the Wide Receivers & Tight Ends.

Wide Receiver

WR 13 Darrin Peterson (So., 6-2, 190)

85 Branden Francis (Sr., 5-10, 165)

WR 80 Dante Shells (R-Fr., 6-1, 175)

10 Gabe Henderson (Jr., 5-11, 195)

This group of receivers combined for just 9 receptions last season, but the receiving corp may have improved the most during Spring-ball. Peterson and Shells could develop into a deadly 1-2 combo before their time on the Mountain expires. Gabe excelled during the Spring as well. Expect both Jaquan Glover and Damarcus Faison to figure into the rotation in the Fall as well.

Tight End

TE 82 Brandon Apon (Sr., 6-4, 255)

89 Canon Smith (R-Fr., 6-4, 255)

We bragged all Spring long on Apon, both as a blocker and as a receiver. A 2013 team captain, Apon has really blossomed under this new coaching staff. Expect him to improve immensely on his 5 receptions he had in 2012. A member of Coach Gill’s first recruiting class at Liberty, Smith looked very solid during Spring ball, and should prove a worthy backup in the Fall. Peter Gagliardi, a starter against Wake Forest in the 2012 opener, will also get plenty of time provided he’s healthy.
