Tomorrow is the national holiday known as Signing Day, here’s an update on where Liberty stands with it’s verbal commitments and prospects.

Verbals:

Bradwell

QB J.T. Bradwell
Shortly after former Liberty commit Terrance Ervin decommitted, Coach Turner Gill ramped up his pursuit of Bradwell. He took his official visit during homecoming weekend, and gave the Flames a verbal on October 28th. He had offers from Arkansas State, Georgia State, Samford, South Alabama, and South Dakota. His signing day ceremonies are scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. Bradwell hails from Tallahassee, Florida where he attended Godby High School.

RB Daquin Edwards
Edwards is a 6’1″, 230-pound running back from Lake Butler, Florida. Liberty is his only reported offer.

WR B.J. Farrow
Teams seemed to shy away from Farrow, maybe due to his grades and/or size. His head coach at LCA, Frank Rocco, has said “he’s flat-out the best receiver I’ve ever coached, maybe even that I’ve ever seen, in high school.” High praise.

TE Trey Caso
Caso just committed this weekend while on his visit. He is the stepbrother of current Liberty volleyball player Rachel Smoltz. Not much information about the Roswell, Georgia native online.

OL Jeff Fox
Fox is a 2-star offensive line prospect according to both 247sports and Rivals. His only previously reported offer was from Presbyterian who has since pulled the offer due to him not committing. According to a source, Fox has been offered by Liberty and has committed, but he has not been “accepted” by Liberty. Just speculation on my part, but it sounds like there may be an issue with him qualifying due to grades. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if his NLI comes through on Wednesday. Fox is from Augusta, Georgia.

Passmore

OL James Passmore
Passmore chose the Flames over offers from East Carolina, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, and Elon. He is a 2-star prospect according to both Rivals and 247sports. He committed to Liberty on September 29th. Passmore is from Dallas, North Carolina.

OL Gregg Storey
Storey is another kid without much readily available information online. Storey hails from Cary, North Carolina where he attended Panther Creek High School. No reports of any other offers, here is the source of his commitment:

DL Javon Majors
Majors was one of the first commitments for the class of 2014, and it sounds like he has stuck to his original pledge even though JMU picked up their interest under their new coaching staff. Majors is from Virginia Beach where he attended Ocean Lakes High School.

Tolen Avery

DE Tolen Avery
Avery chose the Flames over Texas Southern and Nevada. He is rated as a 2 star prospect according to Rivals. The Galveston, Texas native committed to Liberty during his official visit in January.

LB Lucas Irons
Irons committed to the Flames while on his official visit on January 26th. He is a 2 star rated prospect according to Rivals with Liberty being his lone reported offer. Irons’ signing day event begins at 10 a.m. Irons attends Coconut Creek High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

LB Avery James
James comes from the prestigious Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina. Rivals has him as a 2 star prospect with offers from Richmond, Chattanooga, Eastern Illinois, and Illinois State. Liberty was the first to offer him in late July, and he committed January 26th.

Avery James

S Cam Jackson
Liberty offered Jackson late, and he visited campus this past weekend. While on campus he gave Coach Gill & company his verbal commitment. Jackson also played receiver in high school, and is a Division I baseball prospect. Cam is from Houston, Texas.

ATH Corbin Jackson
Jackson played both receiver and defensive back in high school, and committed to Liberty back in November. Corbin Jackson is from Charlotte, North Carolina where he attended Victory Christian High School.

K/P Avery Echols
Echols committed to the Flames after being offered a preferred walk-on spot. He chose Liberty over preferred walk-on offers from both Toledo and Wofford. Echols is from Zeeland, Michigan.

Those are the 14 verbal commitments we have been able to uncover. As is usually the case, there are probably some guys we have been unable to identify.

Prospects:

A few notes regarding other Liberty prospects:

TE T.J. Widner
Widner ended up choosing a preferred walk-on spot to Arizona State over his offers from Liberty, San Diego, and Wagner.

TE Emmanuel Aka
Not sure if there’s anything to it, but 247sports had Aka listed as a Georgia Southern commit for some time. As I was doing my due diligence for this post, I noticed he has been switched from a “Georgia Southern commit” to having 2 schools showing interest (Georgia Southern and Liberty) with GSU being the “favorite.” His only reported offers are from Liberty and Georgia Southern. There may not be anything to it, but maybe he’s had a last minute change of heart.

Transfer:

Johnson

As reported by Chris Lang of the News & Advance, the Flames have picked up a transfer from West Virginia in tight end Will Johnson. He was a 3 star recruit coming out of Osseo High School in Osseo, Minnesota according to Rivals, ESPN, and Scout. He had a number of offers when he was recruited out of high school including West Virginia, Minnesota, Auburn, Boston College, Iowa, Iowa State, and Kansas. Coach Gill was Kansas’ head coach at the time of his recruitment. Johnson redshirted in 2012, his freshman year, and notified the Mountaineers in August 2013 that he intended to transfer. The 6’6″, 245-pounder will have 3 seasons of eligibility remaining.
