Things are looking bleak for the 2020 college football season and for Liberty.

The Big Ten announced Thursday that they will go with a conference only schedule this Fall, and reports began to surface that the ACC and Pac-12 would follow suit.

If the ACC does in fact go conference only, that would mean Liberty would lose 3 games from its 2020 schedule. The Flames are scheduled to open the season at Virginia Tech on Sept. 5. as well as travel to Syracuse on Oct. 17 and NC State on Nov. 21.

Since Liberty is obviously not in a conference, this could create some huge problems if other conferences continue to go this way.

Liberty’s non ACC opponents include: North Carolina A&T, Western Kentucky, Florida International, Bowling Green, Louisiana-Monroe, Southern Miss, UConn, Western Carolina, and UMass.

If all conferences decide to go conference only, Liberty will be in a very tough spot. Notre Dame looks like it will be taken care of by the ACC, and some of the other independent programs may not have the financial resources to support an independent-only schedule.

Stay tuned for what will likely be a very interesting next few days and weeks as we inch closer to September and the scheduled start of college football.
