According to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, Liberty will compete in the 2020 Cancun Challenge. The Flames will face Purdue in the first round on Nov. 25. Mississippi State and Clemson are the other teams in the event, salted for Nov. 25 and Nov. 26. Liberty replaces Illinois State, who was previously scheduled for the event.

These will be Liberty’s opening games of the 2020-21 season, as previously the NCAA approved a start date of November 25. The Cancun Challenge was originally scheduled to be televised on CBS Sports Network.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Cancun Challenge has been moved to Eastern Florida State College in Melbourne, Florida, located near Cape Canaveral. Games will be playled at the Titan Field House which is home to Eastern Florida’s men’s and women’s basketball programs. The arena seats approximately 1,500 fans.
