Liberty suffered defeat on Saturday evening at Louisiana Tech, falling 34-28, in overtime. The Flames are now 4-7 on the season and 3-4 in conference play. Here’s how we have the team graded out for this game.

Quarterbacks: F

  • Ethan Vasko was just 8 of 21 passing for 141 yards, 1 touchdown, and 4 interceptions. All four of his interceptions came late in the game when the Flames were firmly in control, leading by as many as 14 in the late third quarter. He finished the game by throwing incomplete passes on his final seven pass attempts, with four of them being intercepted.

Running Backs: A

  • Evan Dickens did everything in his power to try and lift Liberty to the win. He rushed for 228 yards and 2 touchdowns on a career-high 30 carries while averaging 7.6 yards per carry. Vaughn Blue also had 4 rushes for 23 yards.

Wide Receivers/Tight Ends: C

  • It’s very difficult to give the pass catchers a fair grade when there were only 8 completed passes on the day and only five of those were to non-running backs. Caleb Ryan led the way with 2 catches for 72 yards while Donte Lee had 1 reception for 17 yards, Jamari Person had 1 catch for 8 yards, and Jacob Jenkins had 1 catch for 6 yards and a touchdown.

Offensive Line: B+

  • Liberty rushed for 6.4 yards per carry while the offensive line allowed just one sack. On several occasions, it felt like Vasko had all day to throw.

Run Defense: D

  • The Bulldogs rushed for 319 yards rushing on 5.9 yards per carry against the Flames.

Pass Defense: C-

  • Down to their third quarterback, Louisiana Tech completed 13 of 21 passes for 118 yards and an interception.

Special Teams: B

  • Jay Billingsley made all of his kicks once again on Saturday.
