Here’s how former Liberty players Demario Douglas and Malik Willis fared this past week in the first week of the 2026 NFL season.
WR DEMARIO DOUGLAS
This week: Seattle 13, New England 10
Douglas was one of Drake Maye’s most-targeted receivers in New England’s season opener, finishing with five receptions for 20 yards on seven targets in the Patriots’ 13-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The former Liberty standout could see an increased role moving forward after the Patriots placed A.J. Brown on injured reserve following a high-ankle sprain. Brown will miss at least four games, potentially opening up more opportunities for Douglas in the New England offense.

QB MALIK WILLIS
This week: Las Vegas 27, Miami 13
It was a mixed debut for Willis in his first game as the Miami Dolphins’ starting quarterback. The former Liberty star completed 15 of 27 passes for 220 yards with one interception while adding six rushing attempts for 31 yards and a touchdown. He also was sacked five times as the Dolphins struggled to consistently move the ball against the Raiders. Willis’ rushing touchdown accounted for Miami’s only touchdown of the game, as the Dolphins managed just 259 total yards and went 2-for-10 on third down. Despite the loss, Willis’ 220 passing yards marked a career high for a regular-season start and gave the former Liberty quarterback plenty to build on heading into Week 2.
