Liberty loses to Charleston Southern, 74-62, Saturday night. Here’s our rapid reactions from the game:

  1. The Flames fall to 0-10 in Big South play which ties the worst start in conference play in school history matching the 1998-99 team.
  2. This was the first game it felt like Liberty had a legitimate chance to win into the 2nd half since the conference opener against Campbell on New Years’ Eve.
  3. Hat tip to Liberty beat writer Chris Lang for this stat – Liberty has not led a game in the 2nd half sine the previously mentioned Campbell game. That’s 9 straight games without holding a lead in the 2nd half. That’s got to be some kind of record.
  4. Jordan Dembley got his first career start and played very well. The true freshman point guard from Minnesota finished the game 9 points, 4 assists, and just 3 turnovers in 28 minutes. Pretty solid play at the point guard spot, a place the Flames desperately need production from following Joe Retic’s injury.
  5. Saah Nimley, the leading scorer in the Big South, finished with just 18 points on 4/14 shooting from the field. He did have 15 points in the 2nd half.
  6. Drew Smith and David Andoh added 14 and 12 points, respectively for the Flames who shot 49% from the field.
  7. Next up: a road trip to Winthrop on Thursday as Liberty hopes to avoid falling to 0-11 in Big South play for the first time in school history.
