I recently had the chance to have a question & answer session with Liberty football commit Joshua Smith.
Jon Manson(me) – What drew you to Liberty?

Joshua Smith – When I 1st committed to liberty I committed of the fact it was a great school academically, athletically, and spiritually. Then when I went on my official I just felt the love and the atmophosphere was great! Liberty is definitely the school for me.

JM – What other schools did you strongly consider?

JS – I did consider Grambling st and Kansas St at first because of my family went there but Liberty caught my eye. I felt like I wanted to start my own trend and start my own legacy

JM – Are there any other teammates/friends/etc. you are trying to persuade to come with you to Liberty?

JS – Well the coaches at Liberty really like my teammate Dre Fuller. Dre and I are very close so I hope they offer him so I can have someone go with me.

JM – What NFL player would you compare yourself to?

JS – I compare myself to Darren sproles because the way he is small and powerful. He is very dynamic and versatile out of the backfield. I’m compared to a lot of backs but I feel like I’m more like him.

JM – What do you think about Liberty’s aspirations to move their program to the FBS level?
JS – I think it’s great that it is finally happen. I know Liberty is strong on football and I’m happy that their dream is coming alive to make Liberty Football a powerhouse.

JM – What conference do you hope Liberty joins while you are in school?

JS – Hopefully we join either the big east or Sun Belt.  That gives my friends and family a chance to see me because UNT is in the Sun Belt and there are rumors about SMU joining the big East so that will give my Mom an opportunity to see me play.

JM – How would you describe your relationship with Liberty’s coaching staff?
JS – We have a good relationship. I mostly talked to Coach Stamn. That’s my guy! I recently talked to Coach Forbes. Coach Forbes and I have quite a bit in common when it comes to our family background, but he’s just like my RB Coach in high school so we’ll get along just fine.

JM – What do you plan on majoring in?

JS – I plan on Majoring in Business and kinesiology. Ever since I was little I always wanted to own a business so I want to make that become a reality. I want a degree in kinesiology or physical education too so I can be certified to be coach in the future.

JM – What will you miss most about home?

JS – Just my Family and friends. I am very Family oriented and I am really close to them. And my friends are like my family so it’s going to be tough not being close to them but I have to go to school and get my degree and make my dreams reality.

JM – What do you plan on doing this offseason?

JS – Just work on getting bigger, faster, and stronger for the next level. I want to just improve on my whole game. I’m taking no days off at all so I can be the best
