When Richard Wright entered the Liberty football program as a walk-on in 2009, no one would have guessed he’d be where he is today. After redshirting his freshman year, Wright has played in every game of his Liberty career, becoming one of the Flames most valuable players.

“It’s been awesome, the Lord has had favor on me” Wright said of his Liberty experience, “I couldn’t ever ask for it, but he’s blessed me with an opportunity here the last four years of my life. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.”

Wright has made the most of his opportunity, building an impressive resume while here at Liberty. Richard was named a preseason All-American long snapper at the beginning of the year by both College Sporting News and College Sports Journal. He is already a two time Big South first team long snapper and is most likely on his way to a third after what looks to be another stellar season.

Just what fans want in a long snapper, Wright is consistent. He hasn’t even had a bad snap since his sophomore season. It is absolutely amazing how reliable Wright has become, but Richard told us, “I’m just doing my job. No one needs to know who I am, as long as they know it was done right.”

"If the Lord blesses me with the opportunity to carry on to the next level, I couldn't even ask for something like than, but it would just be another awesome opportunity. It'd give me a platform that I would use in the right way. If he gave me that opportunity, there's no telling what I could do with it."

I would beg to differ. His contributions over the past four years have been huge for the Flames, who are always superior on special teams. We take his job for granted, but his success is undeniably vital to the unit. Over the course of his career, Wright has become one of the most decorated players on special teams in Liberty history.

As far as next year goes, Wright hopes he’ll get a chance to play at the next level, but if not would like to get a job as a strength and conditioning coach at Liberty or somewhere else.

We’ll be rooting for Richard as he moves forward with his career and wish him the best of luck.
