After setting personal bests last week against UAB, A Sea of Red Athlete WR DeMario Douglas had another career game Saturday evening versus Middle Tennessee State.

Douglas led the team in receiving with 6 receptions for 156 yards and a touchdown. To give you a better idea of how impressive that was, WR CJ Daniels was second in receiving with just 22 yards. Considering this and his overall impressive performance Douglas earns player of the game honors this week.

Things got started early for the redshirt freshman as he was the only target for QB Malik Willis on Liberty’s opening drive. DeMario started out by converted a 2nd and long for a first down and followed that up with a post-route that resulted in a 35 yard catch for the first score of the game.

When he wasn’t scoring touchdowns, Douglas was setting them up. Towards the end of the first, DD drifted off to the right of Willis as a safety-valve. After the play broke down and Willis scrambled, Douglas streamed up the right sideline past his defender and brought in a 41 yard catch. The Flames would score three plays later. His most impressive catch came with 2:20 left in the 2nd quarter. With a simple vertical route, DeMario took the top off of the defense and brought in a 49 yard bomb despite double coverage. This led to a 37 yard field goal for the Flames.

Douglas also continues to be a factor in the punt return game. He averaged 11 yards per return and had a beautiful hurtle late in the 3rd quarter to get Liberty out of the shadow of their own endzone.
