Here’s how Liberty football’s 2021 opponents fared in week 2:

Campbell (0-2): Lost to Elon 24-23.

Elon used a strong 4th quarter to hand Campbell its second loss in as many weeks.

Old Dominion (1-1): Beat Hampton 47-7

After a blowout week 1 loss to Wake Forest, ODU rebounded with a blowout win of their own over FCS Hampton.

Syracuse (1-1): Lost to Rutgers 17-7

Despite Taj Harris’s 8-reception, 122-yard performance, the Orange offense struggled to find the end zone against Rutgers. Syracuse drops to 1-1.

Alabama-Birmingham (1-1): Lost at #3 Georgia 47-7

UAB is widely considered to be a good football team, and I think they’ll pose a tough challenge to Liberty. But the UAB Dragons aren’t the Georgia Bulldogs.

Middle Tennessee (1-1): Lost at Virginia Tech 35-14

Middle Tennessee hung with Virginia Tech through two quarters, but the Hokies used a two-touchdown 3rd quarter to put the Blue Raiders away.

Louisiana-Monroe (0-1): Bye Week

ULM faces Deon Sanders’s Jackson State in week 3.

North Texas (1-1): Lost at SMU 35-12

North Texas quarterback Jace Ruder tossed for 366 yards but threw two interceptions as the Mustangs used a dominant 2nd half performance to beat the Mean Green in convincing fashion.

Massachusetts (0-2): Lost to Boston College 45-28

UMass put together a decent 2nd half, but they couldn’t recover from a 14-0 halftime deficit as Boston College rolled to an easy win.

#17 Mississippi (2-0): Beat Austin Peay 54-17

Ole Miss is averaging nearly 38 points per game this season. Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral threw for five touchdowns in an easy win.

Louisiana (1-1): Beat Nicholls State 27-24

Louisiana hasn’t yet lived up to lofty preseason expectations. After being blown out by Texas last week, the Ragin’ Cajuns were lucky to survive a poor 4th-quarter performance against FCS Nicholls State.

Army (2-0): Beat Western Kentucky 38-35

Army led by 14 after three quarters and staved off a late Hilltopper comeback attempt in a 3-point victory.
