Barber on Two Cents Radio
You may remember Two Cents Radio from earlier this year when I was interviewed regarding Liberty and their potential candidacy for the Sun Belt. Well, Doug Hazard and Jay Bir had on another familiar guest this week in Liberty AD Jeff Barber. If you missed the show, it will be archived (hopefully later today) on the Two Cents Radio website.

Online football roster updated
The 2014 football roster has been updated online, complete with all the incoming freshmen including their jersey numbers. All announced signees and preferred walk-ons have made their way to the roster. 2013 signee Zac Parker, who was ruled academically ineligible last season, has sinced qualified and is listed on the roster.

There are a few names not listed on the roster including running back Clifton Richardson, linebacker Dallas Griffiths, and offensive lineman Blanchard Sanwouo.

As was reported at the conclusion of spring ball, Richardson was no longer on the team.

Griffiths was a highly touted prospect who chose Liberty after giving a verbal commit to Maryland. Due to several injuries, he has never seen significant time on the field in his first 2 seasons with the Flames.

Sanwouo is a big offensive lineman originally from Cameroon who redshirted last season.

2014 Hall of Fame Class Announced
The 2014 Liberty Hall of Fame Class was announced earlier this week. The 5 inductees include Wayne Haddix (football), Matt Hildebrand (basketball), and 3 former Track & Field members (Mike Decker, Jake Matthes, and Delethea Quarles).

Haddix (1983-86) was the first player in program history to get an invitation to the Senior Bowl, and played 5 seasons in the NFL. He was the first Flame named to the NFL Pro Bowl in 1990.

Hildebrand (1991-94) started every game he played during his 116-game career including Liberty’s first ever NCAA Tournament game. He finished his career with 1,515 points and is one of four players in program history to have his jersey retired.

Decker (1999-2001) is one of just four track and field athletes in program history to earn three or more All-America honors during their careers. He was a 20-time Big South champion, and won every Big South race he competed in during his senior season.

Matthes (1976-91) was the track and field program’s first ever coach, and led the Flames at four different levels of competition (NCCAA, NAIA, NCAA Division II and Division I).

Quarles (1987-89) earned All-America honors twice in the heptathlon, and is entering her 17th year as an assistant coach for South Carolina’s track and field program.

Big South Media Day
The Big South Conference’s annual media day will be held on Thursday, July 24. The 2014 Preseason Big South Poll and Preseason All-Conference teams will be announced during the day. Interviews will be held with each football team’s head coach as well as selected athletes. I always enjoy media day as it signals the beginning of training camp around the corner and the season just weeks away.

New Poll
Be sure to keep voting all summer long in our series Expectations 2014. The most recent poll is the Richmond game.

FlameFans thread of the week
Plenty of good discussion going on this week in the Expectations for 2014 thread as we are discussing the scheduling philosophies, the nonconference opponents on this year’s schedule and much more.
