Spring practice to begin Tuesday
Spring football practice gets started Tuesday with the first of 15 practices which will conclude on April 17th. We will have periodic updates throughout Spring practice as Coach Gill & company begins preparing for the 2014 season.
The Annual Spring Game is set for April 12th at 2pm, so mark your calendars!
Sun Belt Conference meetings
We continue to monitor the situation with Liberty and the Sun Belt who will be having a meeting amongst conference athletic directors and presidents this weekend in New Orleans during their basketball conference tournament. Last year this time is when the Sun Belt added 4 football playing members including FCS members Appalachian State and Georgia Southern. So, stay tuned this weekend and next week as word begins trickling out from those meetings.
Baseball on a roll
The Flames have won 6 straight with wins over Rider, Duke, Kent State and Elon setting up a pivotal early season conference clash with Campbell this weekend. Liberty will face the Camels for a 3 game set in Lynchburg beginning Friday afternoon at 3pm. Liberty is 12-6 and Campbell is 13-5 on the season. The Camels swept the 3 game swept from the Flames a season ago in Buies Creek.
Lady Flames fall in Semis
Coach Carey Green and his Liberty women’s hoops team fell to Winthrop, 65-59, in the Big South Tournament semifinals last Saturday. This was the first time since 2007 that Liberty failed to advance to the Big South Championship title game.
Liberty now hopes for a WNIT appearance, the field will be announced on March 17.
Jennings signs with New York Giants
Rashad Jennings made a splash this week when he inked a 4 year $14 million contract with the New York Giants. Rashad is coming off a career year for the Oakland Raiders where he rushed for 733 yards and 6 touchdowns to go along with his 36 receptions for 292 yards in 15 games played, all career-highs.
