ccu gillNational Signing Day nears
With National Signing Day less than 2 weeks away, things have been moving very fast. We had our 2nd Football Recruiting Update of the month earlier this week with a detailed look at Liberty’s recruiting board. Every weekend from now until signing day are huge, but this past weekend was the biggest one the Flames will have. 7 prospects visited campus: Damian King, Jeremy Peters, Malik Clements, Zac Foutz, Denvre Daniels, Frankie Hickson, and William Brown. All except for Clements and Hickson have since verballed to Liberty bringing the Class of 2015 commitments to a total of 9. We have been able to confirm two prospects that will be on an official visit this weekend in Dontae Duff and Dorian Kithcart.

3-star CB Prospect Nate Dalton commits to Arkansas
We covered his recruitment pretty closely over the past month or so. After naming his top 4 of Liberty, Michigan, Kentucky, and Arkansas, Dalton committed to the Razorbacks on Thursday afternoon. It’s a blow to lose out on such a talent, but it’s also a testament to the job that Coach Gill and staff are doing.

Men’s hoops update
I don’t even know what to say anymore. We are bad. The Flames lost to Longwood and Winthrop this week to fall to 0-7 in Big South play for the first time since 1998-99. It’s hard to find a win any time soon with a trip to Radford on the slate for Saturday, followed by home games against High Point and Charleston Southern, both of whom are tied for 1st place in the league. After that, the Flames hit the road for games at Winthrop and Presbyterian.

Women’s hoops update
The Lady Flames dropped their first Big South game, losing to Winthrop 63-58 in Rock Hill on Tuesday. Liberty shot 29.7% from the field and was just 5/24 from 3-point range. Winthrop only attempted 4 3-pointers all night. The Lady Flames are tied for first place in the conference standings with High Point at 8-1. They host 6-3 Campbell on Saturday.

Davis to play in College Gridiron Showcase
Liberty senior defensive lineman Dominique Davis has been selected to play in the inaugural College Gridiron Showcase game. The all-star game features the top senior players from all levels of college football. The game will be played in Arlington, Texas on January 31st.

Lunsford receives All-American honors
Liberty kicker John Lunsford has been named to the College Sporting News 2014 Fabulous Fifty FCS All-America team. This is the 2nd All-American honor for Lunsford as he was named to the Sports Network All-American first team.

FlameFans thread of the week
Once Nate Dalton announced his top 4 of Liberty, Michigan, Arkansas, and Kentucky, his recruiting thread blew up. 2015 Prospect: DB Nate Dalton
